Ruben Kanya, How to Create More Quality Content to Grow Your Brand – InnovaBuzz 479

Ruben Kanya

Ruben Kanya, Invested Talent

In this episode, I’m really excited to have as my guest, Ruben Kanya, Director of Invested Talent and Founder of The Real Estate Experiment Network. Ruben is focused on building real relationships as the founder of The Real Estate Experiment Network & Podcast where he’s featured notable thought leaders in the real estate industry who have amassed over a billion dollars worth of real estate assets in ownership & management collectively. He’s used this platform to make key introductions to help individuals within his network get the help they need and/or help them form key partnerships.

In our discussion, Ruben talked to me about:

  • Our duty to share if we have something of value
  • Being clear about who we serve and the problem we solve
  • Connecting with the right people and asking good questions

Jason Van Orden in episode 275 and Michael Roderick in episode 328 introduced us to Ruben.

Show Notes from this episode with Ruben Kanya of Invested Talent and The Real Estate Experiment Network

Key points and takeaways from this episode include:

  • Repurposing is taking something that you are already doing and leveraging it to make it go a long way.
  • A real estate syndicator helps passive investors make more money. They find deals, raise capital, and get a return of investment.
  • It’s important for entrepreneurs to understand how they can benefit from real estate especially from a tax advantage perspective.
  • Podcasting helps you build a community but it also enables you to educate yourself and foster relationships with your guests through it.
  • Podcasting is networking, educating, and building a community.
  • Being resourceful is the best content you can provide to people. Podcasting helps you do that.
  • Whether you’re a coach, an investor, or a small business, you are trying to serve somebody. You have something  of value that can benefit somebody and it is your duty and obligation to try to serve as many people as possible.
  • Be clear on who your ideal audience is. Identify where they hang out most, but take note that it’s also not the only place that they would hang out.
  • You cannot help everybody. Niched businesses help a specific person with a specific problem that is looking to achieve a specific desire.
  • There’s a primary place where your audience hangs out but don’t limit yourself there. Repurposing is about all the other places that your audience hangs out because people consume content in different ways.
  • Content repurposing is all about having the ability to serve as many people as possible in different ways and forms. It’s about meeting people where they are and digging deeper into what they are struggling with.
  • People learn differently and consume content differently. You want to meet them in the form they are comfortable with.
  • Energy cannot be created or destroyed, and the same goes with your content. It can only be repurposed and it ought to be repurposed.
  • Repurposing is a skillset. It is your ability to problem solve in a different medium.
  • Do an audit of your business. Look at all the areas and assets in your business that can be repurposed to better serve your customers and create a better experience for them.
  • The best way to learn is to teach somebody.
  • Don’t just share all your wins. People don’t want you to be perfect. They want you to be relatable. They want to root for you and become your fans. They want humble beginnings. Share the things that you are also struggling with and how you were able to overcome them so that you can be a relatable human being.
  • Learn to appreciate your present milestones more. Sometimes we become so driven to get every milestone that we forget to appreciate yesterday’s future, which is today’s present, but we are never truly present if we’re always thinking about the future and what to do next.
  • Be grateful for where you are right now AND be hungry for more. When you can create that balance, it doesn’t matter what level you are in right now because there will always be the next level.  If you can’t appreciate the level where you’re at or where you’ve come from, it can be detrimental to the thing you are trying to do.
  • Start with the problem you are trying to solve and understand who you are serving. Instead of thinking about what kind of content you should create or where to look for content, think about the kind of questions or obstacles your audience are trying to solve.
  • Take a log of the questions that people are asking you and lead with the result you want to provide.
  • Do an audit of your business. Identify the conversations you are having. Are you doing an audio podcast? Can you do it in video to leverage it? Are you doing videos? Can you turn them into blogs? There are so many types of content that you can provide with the end-goal of the client in mind.
  • Communication is one of the most effective tools that you can have in your life. Communication is key but you must serve first. Use repurposing to serve.

Repurposing is a skill set. It is your ability to problem solve in a different medium. @TheRealEstateE2 on #InnovaBuzz podcast Click To Tweet

The Buzz – Our Innovation Round

Here are Ruben’s answers to the questions of our innovation round. Listen to the conversation to get the full scoop.

  1. #1 thing to be more innovative – Ask the right questions. The quality of the answers you get, depends on the quality of the questions you ask. The better questions you ask, the better answers you receive. Don’t lead with the solution. Lead with the problem.
  2. Best thing for new ideas – Start a podcast.
  3. Favourite tool for innovation – Mastermind groups.
  4. Keep project/client on track –  Real time communication.
  5. Differentiate – Go the extra mile. Go above and beyond, and add your personal touch. Find a way to do unscalable things in a scalable way.

To Be a Leader

Use the BOOM TD framework to create quality and engaging content.

  • B – Is there a belief disruptor out there that you can educate your audience with?
  • O – Is there an obstacle that your audience is dealing with? Lead with the obstacle, not the results.
  • O – Softly bake your offering.
  • M – Can you help them make more money or save money?
  • T – Can you help them save time in what they are trying to do?
  • D – Can you help them achieve their desire?
