Show Notes from this episode with Sue Wong, My Manifesto

In this episode of the InnovaBuzz podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sue Wong, the co-founder and coach at My Manifesto. Sue’s mission is to help individuals gain clarity, focus, and inspiration to live authentic lives. Our conversation delved into the journey of creating My Manifesto, the importance of playfulness in personal development, and practical steps to uncover and live by your personal manifesto.

The Journey to My Manifesto

Sue’s journey began in the world of teaching, where she spent 46 years shaping young minds. However, her path took a turn when she decided to embrace coaching, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to personal development. Together with Justin Robinson, Sue founded My Manifesto, a business dedicated to helping people discover and express what truly matters to them.

Her transition from teaching to coaching was fueled by a desire to diversify and make a more profound impact. Sue’s story is a testament to the power of following one’s passion and adapting to new roles, even later in life.

Embracing Playfulness in Personal Development

A key theme in Sue’s coaching philosophy is the importance of playfulness and creativity. Coming from a background where earnestness was the norm, Sue had to learn to infuse light-heartedness into her approach. This shift not only made her coaching more enjoyable but also more effective.

Sue encourages everyone to be curious and follow their curiosity without shutting it down. She believes that playfulness can unlock new perspectives and opportunities, making personal development a more engaging and fulfilling journey.

Understanding and Creating Your Personal Manifesto

At the heart of Sue’s work is the concept of a personal manifesto. A personal manifesto is a private declaration of wisdom, aims, and intentions. It answers fundamental questions like “Who am I?”, “What do I stand for?”, and “What is the life I intend to lead?”

Sue guides her clients through a process of identifying their strengths and values. This self-awareness forms the foundation for creating a personal manifesto that truly reflects one’s authentic self. The first step is often taking a character strengths questionnaire, which helps uncover one’s top strengths and values.

Living Your Manifesto

Creating a personal manifesto is just the beginning. The real challenge lies in living by it every day. Sue practices what she preaches by reciting her manifesto each morning before starting her day. This ritual helps her stay aligned with her values and intentions.

Living intentionally means being aware of opportunities that align with your manifesto. Sue shared examples of clients who have integrated their manifestos into their daily lives, using them as a guiding framework to make decisions and take actions that are true to their authentic selves.

Overcoming Insecurities and Embracing Change

Many people feel insecure about delving into self-discovery or making significant changes in their lives. Sue acknowledges these fears and offers strategies to manage them. She emphasizes the importance of naming the problem and using strengths to counteract unhelpful behaviors.

Sue’s approach is gentle and encouraging, reminding us that it’s okay to take small steps and that progress, no matter how incremental, is still progress. Overcoming insecurities starts with believing in oneself and being open to change.

The Dynamic Nature of a Personal Manifesto

A personal manifesto is not a static document; it evolves as you grow. Sue highlights the importance of revisiting and revising your manifesto to reflect your current values and aspirations. Flexibility and adaptability are key to ensuring that your manifesto continues to serve as a meaningful guide throughout your life.

This dynamic nature allows you to stay true to yourself while adapting to new circumstances and opportunities. It’s about being open to growth and change while staying grounded in your core values.

Introducing “Complete Clarity”

Sue and Justin’s book, “Complete Clarity,” encapsulates their coaching process and offers a DIY approach to developing your personal manifesto. The book is structured in three parts: priming, the seven-step process, and living your manifesto. It provides practical exercises and insights to help readers uncover their true selves and live intentionally.

The book aims to make the benefits of their coaching accessible to a broader audience, empowering individuals to take control of their personal development journey.

Conclusion

In our conversation, Sue Wong shared invaluable insights into the importance of self-discovery, playfulness, and living intentionally. Creating and living by a personal manifesto can transform your life by aligning your actions with your core values and aspirations. I encourage you to start your journey of self-discovery and explore the resources available at My Manifesto.
