Create Human Connections and Build Your Business with Jürgen Strauss
Marketing and podcasting have always been a human endeavor. It’s not about the money or getting bigger slices of pie, it’s all for relationships!
Marketing and podcasting have always been a human endeavor. It’s not about the money or getting bigger slices of pie, it’s all for relationships!
I love having conversations with people on my podcast because of the human element. Email is fine, websites are great—but conversations have life! Podcasting has enabled me to connect with business owners around the world and build my business in a very human way.
Speaking of podcasts, I was recently interviewed by Michael DeLon on his Experts Speak podcast on just this topic. Our conversation illuminates the importance of the human element in business and shows you how simple—and powerful—having your own podcast can be.
Michael was also our guest on episode 461 of the InnovaBuzz Podcast.
Here are some of the takeaways from the interview.
- It all starts with relationships.
- Podcasting is a great way to position yourself as an expert in your field.
- Podcasting differentiates you from your competitors. Aside from the fact that most of your competitors don’t have a podcast, it also opens up doors for you to invite people who have great influence as your guests, and ultimately, build a relationship with them.
- Podcasting enables you to grow your network. You meet lots of different people who may then refer other people and businesses to you, or perhaps invite you to participate in other growth opportunities – like webinars or summits, that will help expand your reach.
- Focus on creating an exceptional experience for both your guests and listeners. Sustain that experience by following up and growing the relationship that you’ve built as a result of your podcast.
- Clearly identify and get to know your audience. You can’t have a podcast for everybody.
- Podcasting is an indirect method of growing your business. It’s not the sponsorship and downloads, but the relationships that you build that will lead you to more opportunities for growth and success.
- Each episode of a guest-centred podcast is like having a masterclass with an expert in their field. You gain extra knowledge each time that you can then share with your audience. You become a hero to them because you’re sharing these things that you’ve just learned as well.
- Podcasting is not rocket science. You already have lots of great content that you can do a podcast about.
- Be protective of your audience. Make sure that you’re only bringing on guests that are a good fit for the subject of your podcast and its listeners. More importantly, make sure that they bring value to your audience.
- Having quick get-to-know-you calls is a great way to establish a relationship with your guests even before they get on your show. It’ll also help both of you feel more relaxed and comfortable during the show proper like a couple of old friends having a conversation.
- You don’t necessarily have to script every episode. Scripting it out often puts pressure on you as the host and on your guest.
- Making your guests feel comfortable is part of that exceptional experience. They need to feel that it’s going to be an easy conversation.
- Do your research, prepare, and focus on having quality conversations with your guests. Highlight their expertise and let them share their story because that is what captivates people.
